Yesterday I went to the University of Manitoba open house. I know what I want to do, engineering, and have already applied and been conditionally accepted; but I did learn more about the things that I will be doing next year in the faculty, and the years after that. The presentations actually took place in a room where I’ll be taking one of my classes next year, Design in Engineering. I learned about the Co-op opportunities that will be available to me after my second year of study, and that it will count towards my full engineering certification, since you have to actually work in the field for a certain time under a company before you’re able to legally call yourself an engineer and start you own stuff. I was also presented the compulsory courses that I will be taking, and they explained how you get into the streams (mechanical, civil, electronic, computer, bio-systems) after your first year of study. I was pretty satisfied with the day, and a little less scared for next year.
